Jenny and Carissa exclusively teach piano (including classical piano, chord chart reading, and ear training). We have contacts with other teachers for voice, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, and more that will schedule lessons with you either at Legacy Music Studio, their home, or another location.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Do I need to buy a piano for lessons?”]

A “real” or acoustic piano is a big investment for any family, and especially for a family that is just starting out with lessons. For that reason we suggest buying a quality digital piano along with a matching stand, bench, pedal, and headphones. If you have an acoustic piano and need it tuned or repaired, we have an outstanding technician who can service your piano at minimal cost. Your teacher can help you with purchasing a quality acoustic or digital piano for the best price.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”What do I need for my first lesson?”]

Just yourself! Your teacher will have everything you need for your first lesson. At subsequent lessons, please bring all books and materials.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Do I stay for my child’s lesson?”]

At Legacy Music Studio we have an open reception area that you are welcome to quietly sit in during your child’s lesson. However, during the hour lesson you are more than welcome to run errands, shop Old Town, or enjoy the park. Students will not leave the studio until a parent is in view for pick up.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”How do I schedule a make up lesson?”]

Make up lessons are scheduled at the end of each semester. Due to the busy teaching schedules it’s not always possible to have a make up lesson within the same month a lesson is missed. Lessons missed due to illness, weather, or family emergency will be given a make up. A “no show” will not be made up.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”What age should my child start music lessons?”]

This is a very common question.  Parents never want to “miss the window” of starting piano lessons or other musical lessons.  And really the answer depends on many factors.

  • Has the child expressed interest?
  • Does the child have an attention span long enough for lessons and independent practice?
  • Does your family have time in their schedule to fit in lessons and home practice?
  • Does your child want to learn piano before moving on to a middle school fine art (band, orchestra, or choir)?

We’ve had students start as young as 4 and as old as 70.  There’s no perfect age to learn a musical instrument!  It comes down to the student and family commitment to the instrument.  Every student is different.  We have several curriculums that are geared towards various age groups.  And in the end, there’s never an age where it’s too late to start learning!  The teachers at Legacy Music Studio are always happy to meet with a student to assess readiness and the best curriculum and class for their musical journey.
